Contemplation IX

Am I afraid of the dark?

Sometimes I sleep
with a light shining
outside my window
that draws moths
and little brown bats,
and where a fox
once stepped
from light to darkness,
its silent foot falls
and a rabbit’s scream
just a stone’s throw
from where I lie awake.
