Poetry

Staying Home

Your oil leak,
My radiator,
Both cars
In the shop
Quickly draining away
The money
We saved
For our trip to Bermuda.
Well if not us
At least our cars
Are together
At the bay.

Second Childhood

When you were born,
We played and sang
And painted and danced
Together, and I loved
Being a kid again with you,
Never counting the days.

Now that you’re eighteen,
Packing your room for the move,
College bound, my gaze lingers
On paper boxes filled with toys
You are donating “to children
Who will enjoy them.” But,….” I pause.

You smile and sigh, “Mom,
It’s time to grow up.”
