That sliver of moon
welcoming me
before dawn
gone now
lost in the gray
of first light

gone too the stars
just moments ago
still twinkling
in a black sky
now hidden
behind the veil of day
until time turns again
to night

not like that thing you told me
that I must not betray

secret more hidden
than daytime stars
not to be revealed
in darkness or light
clouding my days and
my nights
