Naomi Shihab Nye

Write On, Door County, is pleased to welcome internally-acclaimed poet, songwriter, and novelist Naomi Shihab Nye on her first visit to the Peninsula. Nye's March 23rd public reading at the Door Community Auditorium will be the keynote introduction to Write On's poetry conference March 23-25, 2017.

Nye's 30+ books of poetry have touched the lives of adults and young readers worldwide. She has been a finalist for the National Book Award and a featured guest on Bill Moyers' PBS specials and Jim Lehrer's and Jeffrey Brown's PBS Newshour interviews.

Drawing on her Palestinian-American heritage, the cultural diversity of her home in Texas, and her experiences traveling in Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, she uses her writing to shine a light on our shared humanity.

In the current literary scene, one of the most heartening influences is the work of Naomi Shihab Nye. Her poems combine transcendent liveliness and sparkle along with warmth and human insight. She is a champion of the literature of encouragement and heart. Reading her work enhances life.
