Because no boy wants a poster of a Schwinn on his bedroom wall
Because crude wants company
Because of car seats and fifth wheels and six on a volleyball team
Because coffee and cigarettes and Power Ball need a reason
Because corn longs to be popped
Because Olay alone would be so lonely
Because we want lips to speak volumes without saying a word
Because sex without foreplay is nothing like the movies
Because chicken is best served slippery
Because apples look sweeter in shiny row upon row
Because 2.2 million people are at work, most above minimum wage
Because relief is best served over-the-counter and easy to digest
Because where would we be without latex gloves, heart valves, Teflon-coated pans,
soft skin, guitar strings, polyester anything?
Because even the earth gets cold sometimes.
