Marie Loeffler

Marie Loeffler has published poems in the Lilliput Review, Third Wednesday, Verse Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Poets’ Calendar, The Journal of a Musician, and Echoes 2012 Anthology. She's enjoyed reading and reviewing poetry and works of non-fiction for Prick of the Spindle, Flutter Press, Portage Magazine, and Verse Wisconsin. She has written freelance interviews, classical music reviews, and articles for Isthmus The Daily Page (Madison, WI). She's a current member of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and SCBWI. In her free time, aside from reading, writing, studying words, cooking, gardening, playing in ensembles (a klezmer band!), and devouring serious news, she enjoys challenging her musical skills with difficult violin pieces. She loves sharing everything she learns with her violin and writing students. She's taught through many places, most recently at the University of Wisconsin–Waukesha and Carroll University.

Kathak Dance

The green silk hem
of a sari twirls
to the circle of
rhythmic feet,
gold bangles
that shine
from wrist
to slender
elbow, as her
arms embrace

“Let’s Get Lost”
lilts from a speaker
as the bartender
shines a martini glass,
and we chat
about Chet Baker's
roiled past,
drinking nothing
but the smooth
brandy of that voice.
