Kids Animal Poetry Contest

The Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park recently announced winners in their second annual Kids Animal Poetry Contest in two age groups.

In the 5 - 7 age group: Flip Flops by AJ Blondheim was recognized. In the 8-10 age group: Lions are Fire by Jackson Mikulsky stood out.

Winners will receive a cash award and a broadside version of their poems.

About the poems our judge said:

Flip Flops is an excellent title, and the young poet’s words make easy-to-see pictures.

The imagery in Lions are Fire is remarkably strong and powerful.

About our judge:

Observing squirrels, chipmunks, birds, ants, and occasional fox, deer, or turtle is part of Judy Garty's daycaring for her two preschool grandsons.  Other parts of her day include swings, sandboxes, music, books, paint, dance, and lots of play.  A teacher and writer, she has taught students in grades 2 - 6 to write poetry and is the author of five nonfiction children's books.  

The Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park thank all of the participants for entering this year and hope they will continue writing poetry and appreciating wildlife.
