the alien came to earth and observed
she read books and listened to hip hop
she saw the way the humans fought
she wondered if the wars would stop
the alien lived in my house and listened
she heard the stories we told
she heard us singing billy joel
she heard the sniffles of our colds
the alien went to my school and learned
she learned of columbus who sailed his ship
she learned of music and boys and friendship
she learned of fire and how it’s lit
the alien lived on earth and convinced them she was human too
she kept her green antennas out of view
she kept her weirdo ideas to herself because she knew
“i can only live on this earth if i’m just like you"
Ode to Sporks
You sit silently in your compartments.
Just waiting in suspense
To be captured,
To plunge into sticky, gooey cinnamon rolls,
or cheesy macaroni,
or maybe even a sweet, cold bowl of ice cream!
Your plastic is a smooth as the ocean.
Your prongs erupt throughout the shiny, curvy, spoon.
You are meant for all foods,
All meaning in life,
The human race will always need you.
You are underrated,
Your invention was pure genius.
What’s better than two utensils
Think of all the money you have saved restaurants.
You’ve cut eating utensil prices in half.
For forks may be useful,
along with spoons,
but you my friend,
are the ultimate utensil
In the winter of 77’ in blowing snow,
Washington’s men brave and strong,
Didn't deserve those conditions that long.
General Washington prayed for strength,
Hoping his men had courage to stand the length
of three long months at Valley Forge.
Some had no shoes, and the food supply was low,
Courage was the thing they had to bestow.
To get through the winter was no easy thing,
but the last thing they wanted to do was fall to England’s King
So with courage they were able to do it.
The War for Independence was far from done,
But because they had courage the American’s won!
Dear pretty little butterfly,
Please grow up and don’t die.
You have such a beautiful life to live,
The lies they tell you are just a myth.
Body so full of life,
Go out and shine your light It’s
Oh what a sight.
Go out and find a love,
Make them yours and go above.
Keep your beauty going,
Let the life keep on flowing.
The world is so cruel
And the saddest part,
They can’t see you’re a jewel.
They think you’re sand
But you’re a pearl
You’re such a beautiful girl.
I'll be there
Wherever you go,
I will be by your side
from your deepest woe
to when you’re a bride.
Through our disagreements
we have our similarities,
We shine our achievements
and laugh at our irregularities
You’ve seen me at my best,
You’ve seen me at my worst.
When I was truly stressed
when I was truly cursed.
You were my light,
when I was surrounded by darkness.
You knew what was right,
You were never heartless.
I wish to return that favor
that you gave to me.
So wherever you go,
I’ll be by your side
from the day we met
til the day we die.

What True Beauty Is
You are beautiful, God’s own child.
No matter if you are loud, quiet, shy or wild.
You are a child of the King making you precious,
Though sometimes I feel ugly, I must confess.
But to God, beauty isn’t a pretty face,
It’s having a pretty mind, soul and good taste.
True beauty is being gentle, humble, and kind,
But society’s stories have us wrapped in a bind.
The world says, “Do this, do that,
Wear these shoes, these pants, this hat
But clothes and looks don’t matter!
You can be beautiful in rags and tatters.
So remember this please, (I beg you!)
It’s not looks that make you, you.
It’s remembering His love and that you are His.
That is what true beauty is.
